Participants
If you decide that the goal is important
enough to put the relationship in a conflict situation, then you have
set your creative energy in motion toward a goal. You choose to interface
with another person. The assumption of abundance allows us to creatively
solve disputes so that everyone can achieve their desired goals.

Process
First the negotiator needs to set the phase.
If using interest based bargaining, they need to communicate to each
other in a manner which increases the coherency of communication. They
need to concentrate on the problem, and not the other person. If they
are using positional bargaining, they need to attempt to persuade the
other party that their position is the correct one.

Solution
They need to establish a problem solving
environment. Negotiating parties are able to find their own solutions.
Listening to another person will give you clues as to how to solve your
conflict so that you both the get what you really need. Steven Covey
(1989) said "Seek first to understand, then to be understood."
People can combine their positive energy to create an abundance of possibilities
that would satisfy everyone's needs.

Advantages
Good communication in negotiation is a
chance to create and grow. It only takes one party to create and environment
for finding resolution because of the reciprocal effect of the Golden
Rule. The use of good communication skills will usually entice a reciprocal
response. It only takes one person to create peace.

Disadvantages
If one party insists in using negative
power to overpower or block the other party's goal, they may have to
get a third party to empower the low-powered party to balance negotiations.

Energy
1. Channel\Speed
Negotiation enables parties to solve a
conflict "on the spot". There is less time obviously, if the
parties can come to an agreement or attempt to have both there needs
met.
2. Encoder\Understandability
Participating in positive communication
enables you to understand yourself better by exploring your own hidden
interests. The parties understand their own unique perception better
than anyone else.
3. Decoder\Acceptability
As receivers of the message, the participants
are responsible for their own solutions. They have to follow through
with the agreement, and usually continue the relationship. In the future,
after successful negotiation, this energy accelerates because the parties
have built a relationship of trust.
4. Message\Importance
Early positive energy means
that less energy is spent on destroying each other, and more energy
is spent creating an environment where all are satisfied. The message
is important to the parties because it is their personal conflict and
their future.
